In 1975, Chuck Smith Jr. started teaching a Bible study in the home of Jim and Fran Counter in Dana Point. After constant growth, and meeting in different buildings, they founded Calvary Chapel of Dana Point. By 1986, the church was meeting in our current facility in Capistrano Beach. Take a look around the next time you're visiting our sanctuary and you'll probably notice that it used to be a bowling alley. Pretty cool, huh?
Just like our individual spiritual journeys, Capo Beach Calvary has grown through several different phases. Originally, we were really militant Christians, but over the years we became more gracious and loving toward people. We adopted the mission statement "Putting People In Touch With God" which keeps us committed to the ministry of Christ's grace to all people.
We strive to be a church made up of people who welcome anyone and everyone with open arms the way Jesus did. Come check us out, and don't be afraid to introduce yourself to someone by telling them you're new.
